Oh, life...

Sooo not too much is new with us here! Jakson is taking a quick nap on my bed so I decided to do a little blog.

I tried to weigh him this morning and it is look like he is getting close to 13 pounds, I can't believe it!! I had bought him some 3-6 month onsies and pants and thought well these look huge. I put them on him today and they fit. I mean, there is some room to grow for sure, but he is getting so big!!

So we are a sickly household right now :( Well the momma is at least. I started getting sick yesterday and it has just gotten worse as the day goes on. I am trying every natural remedy to get better faster so I don't have to take medicine while nursing the little guy. I just hate being sick- ugh!!

Training was going great until I got sick. I ran Sunday and Tuesday and that's all since I am sick now. Hopefully I will be better by our long run on Saturday but I guess we will see.

This month should be a busy one. Josh goes out of town 3 different times. Jakson and I are not looking forward to that at all. Jakson is going to go on his first plane ride this month. I am excited and nervous about it. I can't wait to get out to TX since I still haven't been out there to see where some of Josh's family lives. I just hope Jakson does good on the plane ride. Josh won't be with us so I am bummed about that.

Well, I think that is all for now.

I will leave you with this cute picture of my baby :)

oh.my.goodness.NO CHOCOLATE?!

For those of you that know me well, you know my LOVE for chocolate. I pretty much eat chocolate at least once a day. I could never say no to some m&m's or a nice chewy brownie. It's kind of bad.

So I had mentioned to my husband, sister and her boyfriend that I would give up chocolate and they laughed and said I could never do it. Well thank you guys, because of you, I am going to do it. I am going to give up chocolate until my half marathon. It started today and so far so good, haha. I packed up all of the chocolate in the house and Josh is taking it to work tomorrow. This is going to be rough but I am going to prove to everyone that I can do it.

If I make it to April 24th I get to buy myself another nice pair of sunglasses since mine are starting to get scratched. Poor hubby didn't realize that it is a lose, lose situation for him. I won't bake chocolate treats for the next 2 months and then he gets to buy me a pair of sunglasses. Haha, thanks babe, love you :)

Looks like I will be baking sugar cookies, oatmeal cookies and banana bread. I will keep you informed on how it is going...wish me luck, hah.

Jakson is three months old

I know I say this all of the time but it is really starting to fly by WAY too fast. you need to slow down and be momma's little baby boy FOREVER :) hehe, yeah right!

Well you are just the sweetest little thing EVER. I love waking up in the mornings with your sweet little smile staring back at me...well atleast after you wake up and get fed :) you are a little eater- that is for sure! Your little laugh and smile just make me the melt. And don't even get me started on your voice...it is so deep and adorable. ahh, i just love you baby boy.

Alright Jaks, here is what you are up to at three months~

-You are ADORABLE(thats a given).

-You are in size 1 diapers.

-You are mostly in 0-3m clothes and some 3-6m depending on the brand.

-You still aren't taking a paci but you LOVE your hand and are searching hard for the thumb. I guess we will see if you will figure that out or not.

-You go to bed about 10:30 every night.

-You get about 5-8 hours of sleep...just depends on the night.

-You are still in mommy and daddy's room but that will change soon. We are planning on moving you to your crib next week. We will see how that goes!

-You are a happy camper in morning :) it is wonderful bc it wakes me up!

-Your eyes are as blue as can be.

-You are holding your head up great while sitting up. You are working hard on lifting it while laying on your tummy.

-You grabbed one of the birds on your bouncy seat the other day and it was adorable. You were super excited that you were able to do that and kept grabbing it.

-You love to eat. No doubt about that. You are still nursing and also take a bottle like a champ, which is wonderful.

-You love to coo ALL of the time and your mommy and daddy like to narrate what you are saying, hah.

-You still love your carseat and that makes me happy.

What a precious blessing you are to me and your daddy. We adore you and are so thankful for you. So excited to see what this month of your life brings. I love you sweet Jakson.

Look at how much you have changed over the past 3 months..

Rethinking my focus...

This morning Jakson and I slept in a bit. He woke up at 6 and then we fell back asleep about 6:45 and slept until 9:45...which with then having to feed him, feed myself, and drink my morning coffee, didn't leave much time to get to the gym before childcare was over.

So I did what I should do every morning when I wake up~ my quiet time with the Lord. I am reading Beth Moore's, Whispers of Hope. It is an awesome book. It has some reading for you to do, then she talks about the reading, and then it has places for you to write your thoughts and prayers for the day. (Just a little plug if you are looking for a good little devotional book)

This morning was about rethinking our focus. I know that I can get so caught up in the day to day activities that I forget where my focus should really be. It should be on Him. It should be on the one that this life is really about.

Matthew 6:33-34 says, but seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

If we seek God in all we do, he will direct us and help us discern his priorities through the work of the Holy Spirit. I get so caught up in worrying about every petty little thing. No more!! I have to quit that. Our heavenly father is in control!

Just a little thought for the day :) gotta go, little man is hungry!

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

snooow :)

...i mean, how cute is that face :)

i was pretty bummed when it started snowing on Friday and ruined our girls game night. but of course i have enjoyed being stuck in the house with my two boys! i had already made my oreo truffles to bring to girls night. so yes, i think i have already eaten 6 myself...i must get them out of my house ASAP. ugh, i swear, breastfeeding screws up my hormones and makes me crave chocolate 24/7!! i am baking brownies about twice a week these days. its horrible. and SO not good for my figure :) at least i am running a few times a week i guess... (:

so we got jaks out in the snow to take pictures and that's about it. it was falling on his face and he wasn't a fan. the dogs were a little skeptical about it at first but then loved it...only because it was like crushed up ice so they enjoyed eating it- crazies!

today i haven't left the house. we got up this morning and josh made me a yuuummy breakfast and we hung out and were lazy together :) Then I was sooo productive. I went through Jakson's clothes and took ones out that are getting too small(tear, sniff, sniff..) and put some clothes up that he will be wearing VERY soon. I can't believe how big he is getting, seriously!! I still want him to fit in his preemie clothes, haha. Since he still isn't sleeping in his room it was turning into more of a storage room. So i worked on that and got all of his new toys and books organized. And I cleaned bathrooms and the kitchen, and vacuumed, did laundry... i am proud of myself if you can't tell. I just love starting a week off with a clean house. makes me happy inside!

i was a little bummed that the snow and cold weather canceled my long run with the ladies this weekend. so i have to do that tomorrow...hopefully it will warm up a little and if it doesn't I guess I will have to make a trip to the gym. oh treadmill...how i do not like you.

Josh is at the store right now getting things to make calzones tonight...i am SUPER excited :) i love lazy nights at home with my family!

We had a visitor this afternoon. One of my good friends Lindsey, who i haven't seen in FOREVER came over today to see baby J(that's what she calls him and i love it). It was so wonderful seeing her and catching up. I just love her so much and have really missed her. We had a wonderful visit and Frank was super excited to see her. Franky loved Lindsey and he missed her just as much as I had missed her!! Here is jaks with Lindsey...ignore the creeper in the background :)

My husband, my best friend.

So I know that Valentines is this weekend and even though Josh and I don't really celebrate it, I do want to take a minute to talk about my hubby.

We met on a blind date. It was a double date and I really enjoyed his company and he made me laugh the entire night. I was recently single and was enjoying being single. So needless to say, he was calling and texting me and I wasn't really giving anything back. I ignored him for about a month while I explored the single world and dated around...

I decided to give him a call one day and we agreed to meet for lunch during the week. We went to panera and had some good conversation. My birthday was a few days later and I hadn't invited him to go out with us since he would have only really known me and I didn't want to have an awkward night. I was getting ready to go out and some flowers were delivered to my door. My mom had already read through the card and had a huge smile on her face when I read it. They were from Josh :) I called him quickly that night and then went to his work the next day on my red bull shift to "deliver red bulls." Ok, really it was to see Josh...

We were both out of town for Christmas but we talked on the phone and texted each other the entire time. It was on that trip that I really 'fell' for him. Our conversation was just so natural and it just felt comfortable. I was really thinking, wow this could totally be the one. We started dating as soon as we got back and yup, 7 months later we were engaged.

I just LOVE Josh with all of my heart.

He is a wonderful man who is strong in his faith. He loves the Lord with all of his heart and I know will do an amazing job raising our family up in the Lord.

He is such a hard worker. I am so lucky to be able to be at home with Jakson everyday. We trust in the Lord and know that this is what we are being called to do and we know that he will provide for us.

Not only is he a hard worker on the job but also at home. He is always fixing or making things. His newest project is making us a headboard and footboard. I am super excited about this one.

If I ask him to do something for me or for someone else, he does it with no hesitation.

He is always making me laugh.

He is honest...sometimes, too honest :)

He is sooo good lookin'. I can't believe that I snagged him ;)

He loves me and Jakson.

He is an amazing father. I just love watching him with Jakson. Watching the two of them together just brings tears to my eyes. I love my boys soooo very much! He is always helping me out with Jakson. From the moment Jakson was born if I ask Josh to do anything he will do it.

He is my best friend and soul mate :)

I LOVE YOU JOSHUA EARNEST BURFITT

What Jakson's been up to...

Well first off, for the past few weeks he has been sleeping "like a baby." It has been amazing. If we are home all night he goes to bed at 10:30. If we were in the car coming home from somewhere he goes to bed about 12. He wakes up anywhere from 4-8...it has been amazing!! He is really getting anywhere from 6-8 hours of sleep. His momma is LOVING it!!

Also, his new discovery is sucking his hand...ohh no! He won't take a pasi but he is constantly trying to lift his hand to search for that thumb. He is sucking on his knuckles right now bc he hasn't quite figured out the thumb but he is working on it! Last night on our way home from the super bowl party we had the music off and for about 30 minutes we laughed while we listened to Jakson trying to suck on his hand until he fell asleep. Of course, I don't want him to be a thumb sucker but he won't take a pasi and how do you stop him from sucking on his hand...?!?! Here are a couple of pictures of him trying to get that hand in his mouth.

A couple of weeks ago we went to the zoo with Mimi, Jr and Colton. Jakson slept for most of it but it was a beautiful day and so great to get out. Jr and Colton loved it and it was so sweet watching how excited they would get when they would see the animals. We had a great time and I am so glad that Mimi took us! She even got Jakson an adorable stuffed giraffe for his first trip to the zoo! He loves it :)

We also had Colton's 1st birthday party! I can't believe that sweet boy is already 1! Colton is such a cutie and I have loved watching him grow over the past year. I love living so close to family and being able to be in their lives as they grow up! Colton is such a sweet boy. It is so cute watching him with Jakson. He is very interested and is always wanting to grab and kiss him! It is very entertaining to watch.
Unfortunately Josh wasn't able to make it to the party because he was sick, but we had a great time! Ash and Matthew did a great job throwing his first birthday. Instead of getting presents they raised money for Compassion and raised $500. I thought that was so awesome that they did that and really respect them for that. Here are a few pictures from the party!

This past Saturday Josh and I went to his parents house so they could babysit Jakson for a little while. We hung out for a couple of hours and then Josh and I headed out and did some shopping and ate dinner. It was great to get some alone time with my hubby. I know that is so important every now and then. I miss Jakson every second but I really love getting to focus just on Josh and that time with one another. It was wonderful getting to spend some time with the Burfitts and Jakson had so much fun with them :) He didn't really take a bottle well while I was gone so that makes me a little nervous. I think I should start giving him bottles more often so he will take them with no problems. Here are some pictures that my mother-in-law took.

yummm...chocolate chip cookie brownies, yes please!!

boy do i love to bake. it puts me in my happy place. and don't worry, eating them after does too :)

i was inspired to make these yummy delights after a friend brought us some when we came home from the hospital. hers were from a box but i wanted to make them a little more "semi-homemade." so i took my cookie recipe (it's delicious) and a boxed brownie mix and combined the two.

Ingredients:

for cookies-

2 sticks unsalted butter
2 1/4 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 cups dark brown sugar packed
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

for brownies-

brownie box mix
whatever the box mix says you need :)

First make the cookies...

pre-heat the oven to what your brownie box instructs

Melt the butter in a heavy-bottom medium saucepan over low heat. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking soda and set aside.

Pour the melted butter in the mixer’s work bowl. Add the sugar and brown sugar. Cream the butter and sugars on medium speed. Add the egg, yolk, 2 tablespoons milk and vanilla extract and mix until well combined. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until thoroughly combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Chill the dough.

Now make your brownie mix and pour it in your 8x8 dish.

take spoonfuls of cookie dough and push down into the brownie batter. the more cookies you put in the better :)

bake using the directions on your brownie box.

and enjoy :)
